A share filter is live and a share list is not. You can use a share filter to look for contacts who like dogs and it will change as more contacts or information on those contacts are added. A share list will not be live; once you put contacts into it, they are there and none are added or removed unless you have a program run a filter and then add or remove contacts to the list or do it manually.
